The site is located at a former commercial site on the edge of Oudenaarde / Leupegem. It is located between the urban fabric of Leupegem and the green landscape of the Flemish Ardennes. The objective of the project is to acquire these two spatial entities.

Project Description

The project includes:

/ Newly built community facilities

/ Newly built SME zone with multi-purpose hall

/ 8 newly built multi-family residences containing 116 units

/ 21 newly built single-family residences

/ 16 newly built semi-detached houses

/ A semi-underground car park with space for approximately 150 cars

The existing industrial buildings on the site will be torn down. A new public space will be built on two levels at a central location on the site: a square that will be half a level higher than the existing ground surface and a semi-underground car park beneath it. The two levels will be connected visually by means of large openings in which circulations and green elements are provided. As a result, the semi-underground level will become a lively, green space.

Various blocks of buildings will be grouped around this square with a diversity of residential functions: semi-detached houses, single-family residences and multi-family residences, to appeal to a wide target audience.

At the head of the site, Watermolenstraat, a smaller square will be built, where a principal building will be erected. This building will contain community-supporting facilities such as a daycare centre, an SME zone and a multi-purpose hall.

The various building blocks and the collective space are designed as a single entity which will exhibit a strong relationship to the surrounding area, although each building block will have its own identity.

The project provides for various measures with regard to sustainable mobility: a low-traffic site with crossings for pedestrians and cyclists, as well as car-sharing facilities, charge points for electric vehicles, etc.
