The demand for student accommodation is huge in Ghent. However, the
regulations for student accommodation are very strict. With inventiveness
and creativity, the architects of Bontinck Architecture and Engineering
have provided a campus feel to Brusselsepoortstraat.
Project Description
Green spaces with a cluster of communal rooms bring together the two separate buildings,
which feature a total of 83 student rooms. “The first four-level building
fits in with the row of façades along the bustling Brusselsepoortstraat,”
say the project architects. “The T-shaped back buildings in the
more peaceful Nederschelde has three levels. The lowest level is half
underground. This forms a forum in the garden area, around which the
student common rooms congregate.”
