An existing building complex along the Kortrijksesteenweg in Sint-Denijs-Westrem is being expanded with a new BNP Paribas Fortis Bank branch. The same project also provides for the extension of Fun, JBC and Home Market stores. The Fun building is undergoing renovation works as well. The demolition of an existing house, which blocked the visibility of the street, has opened up new perspectives for the whole site.

Project Description

Because of its location on the approach road to the commercial site, the toy store Fun had to contend with a less favourable access. In a first stage, an extension will be built to replace the section due to be demolished at the front of the site. In a second stage, the store will be expanded with a new entrance.

The bank branch will be erected on the street side of the commercial site, at the location of the section of the toy store to be demolished. The façade will be built of profiled concrete, creating the appearance of a barcode. This same barcode look will adorn all the buildings to be renovated. Light penetrates the office through large, accentuated glazed sections on the sides and above the façade. There is a private car park in front of the branch, thus enhancing social control and the feeling of safety.

In a final stage the buildings of JBC and Home Market will be expanded. All the retail sites and the undeveloped plot are connected by a single ring road with one entrance and one exit for the entire project. A green square with parking is planned in the centre among the existing trees.
