B-Park blauwe toren
Retail park
36.900 m²
Bruges, Blankenbergsesteenweg
The Blauwe Toren [Blue Tower] site is located on the Blankenbergsesteenweg close to the motorway north of Bruges. It is bounded on one side by a highly fragmented SME business park and on the other by a landscaped cemetery.
The building serves as a gateway to the city. The green car park subtly blends the landscaping of the cemetery and the hustle and bustle of the business park. The building houses a Carrefour supermarket and several other retail outlets under one roof. The various units cover an area of at least 1,000 m² and are joined by an awning under which pedestrians can easily move from building to building. The design of the awning makes a reference to a skyline emphasizing the building’s function as a gateway.
Halfway along the row, the building is interrupted by a break in the facade with an underpass to the business park behind. All deliveries to the retail outlets are made on the business park side of the development project. The car park is situated on the commercial side of the property. This facade has large expanses of glass. The cycle path along the Blankenbergsesteenweg is continued across the development project site between the building and the green car park. Parking spaces, swales, shopping trolley pick-up points and other street furniture have been positioned so that the car park does not form an immense, monotone concrete area.
This project was carried out by TV Buro II and Bontinck.
