This project includes the expansion and renovation of the façade of an existing retail centre on the Antwerpsesteenweg in Oostakker. It completely takes advantage of the maximum allowed floor space expansion of 5,000 m². The project achieves its unity through the uniform treatment of all façades. A large canopy covering the promenade in front of the building is pivotal in the architecture. The volumes under the canopy feature sloping walls intended to draw the gaze towards the entrance areas.

Project Description

The large-scale aspect of the project is interrupted by a recess in the middle of the façade. This is to be used as a billboard wall, providing existing businesses with additional advertising opportunities. The light it radiates constitutes an added focal point. The insulation and techniques of the existing buildings will be adapted to current requirements during the renovation.
