Residentie Plato
Residential building with 8 apartments and 2 retail units and underground car park (14 spaces)
460 m² | 1.630 m² overground built surface | 206 m² retail units
Ghent, Lange Kruisstraat
This project involves the conversion of an office building into a residential building with eight apartments and two commercial units on the ground floor in the heart of Ghent.
The car park on the ground floor and underground level will be revamped. All upper floors will be demolished and rebuilt to a larger overall height to improve comfort. The existing construction on the first floor will disappear, bringing light and visibility in the main building at that level. The roof of the existing ground floor will be laid out as a terrace and garden with a green roof.
The glass façade of the retail units on the ground floor creates an open and transparent base. In the apartments, alternating balconies and bay windows generate a dynamic pattern on the main façade. The living rooms of the apartments are located on the street side facing west. Opening up on to bay windows or balconies, these living rooms offer residents a unique view of the historic Sint-Baafsplein square.
To the rear, facing east, residents overlook the green inner area from large balconies. Both façades are finished with natural stone cladding in an off-white or very light grey colour. The windows are set in alternance recessed or flush with the natural stone façade finish. The balustrades are made of glass to minimize their impact.
On the fifth floor, the recessed construction volume houses a duplex penthouse with large terraces to both front and rear. This discreet volume is built from a light structure.
