Project ’t Zand is located in Muggenwegel in Heusden, East Flanders. The project comprises 22 luxury apartments (spread across two buildings), twelve spacious houses and twenty underground parking spaces.
The apartment blocks are located on the current Muggenwegel, which is being re-laid and widened. As a result the garden zones are south-facing and benefit from optimal sunlight. The twelve houses, situated on the branch of Muggenwegel, also enjoy an advantageous orientation (east-south-west).
With their varied widths, garages and different brick façades, each house has its own, unique identity. However, this does not prevent the homes from forming a harmonious whole. They all feature a continuous horizontal line that connects the houses. This line is extended to all façades and carports, which provides an original architectural accent. The choice was for warm, contemporary brick architecture. This means the same materials are used throughout the site, in order to create an attractive homogeneous whole.
Spaces were left in between the houses to prevent densification of the street scene. As a result the site looks airy, traversable and green. Furthermore, a fresh dynamic is created through the various depths of the houses in relation to the street.
