Opera house
Ghent, Schouwburgstraat
The restoration of the Ghent opera house was carried out in two phases. The first phase involved all activities relating to access, stability, evacuation, fire safety and the three large halls on the first floor along the Schouwburgstraat – the foyer, the redoubt and the concert hall.
These magnificent halls had been closed to the public for several years. The aim was to readmit the public to these rooms as venues for events. The second phase involved cleaning the facade. This was a soft clean procedure using a low-pressure rotating whirl jet with air, water and granulate. Delicate areas were laser-cleaned. The facade and sculptures where restored using mineral mortar. The cornice was removed and repaired.
