Sint-Martens-Latem

Concept

This rural, L-shaped plot of land is situated in a remote, tranquil corner of Sint Martens Latem. The single-storey home was built parallel to the street. The gently inclined tiled roof has large, yet refined eaves. A wooden structure was inserted at the front in which a garage and several utility areas are housed.

The height of this wooden box determines the height of all non-load-bearing interior walls. The home's floor plan is designed as an elongated beam stretching some 50 m. A single long corridor parallel to the street connects all consecutive rooms. This corridor also acts as a gallery wall for hanging works of art. The brick front facade is fully closed, only a few upper windows illuminate the interior from this side.

The garden facade is fully glazed over its entire length. Two patios are recessed into the rear facade. These create integrated outdoor areas and separate the entrance from the living/daytime areas from night-time areas. Interior and exterior spaces blend along the south-facing garden facade thanks to the extensive use of glass.
