Zaventem

Concept

This project involved the construction of a terminal and Pier B. The pier has forty boarding gates, measures 630 m in length and 30 m in width, spans five storeys and covers a total area of 79,000 m².

The terminal forms a complex of functional buildings such as hallways, restaurants, shopping areas, offices, baggage handling/storage areas, a station, parking facilities, etc.

There is a clear demarcation between arrivals (VD+1) and departures (VD+2). Extensive use of glass and metal was made throughout all buildings. Interiors are light and provide a high level of passenger comfort.

The diamond in the front facade is covered with a glass, crown-shaped roof. The convex glass walls get larger on each ascending level until they ultimately provide a panoramic view of the entire airport at mezzanine level, where several restaurants are located.

This was a project completed by several architects – the G+D Studiegroep Dirk Bontinck, Willox, Jaspers, Montois and Van Campenhout.
